How can a buyer know a freelancer is genuine?
A buyer should review identity status, relevant work, assessed skills, availability and completed-project feedback together. For unfamiliar work, use a small paid trial with its own funded scope instead of asking for unpaid production work.
How can a freelancer know a buyer is serious?
Look for a complete brief, verified identity or organization details, a realistic budget and funded stages. Keep the proposal, scope and payment inside GigAfrika so there is a reviewable record.
What should a clear brief contain?
State the outcome, deliverables, acceptance criteria, deadline, budget, included revisions, required file formats, third-party licences and any confidentiality needs.
Can a buyer request a test?
A general skills assessment may be unpaid when it does not produce usable client work. Any custom sample that creates business value should be a paid trial with agreed rights and acceptance criteria.
Who owns a proposal?
The freelancer keeps ownership of unpaid proposal ideas. Rights to project deliverables arise only from the accepted agreement and the payment terms for that work.
Money, scope and delivery
How are payments protected?
Use funded project stages. Funds are released against agreed work, while an active dispute pauses the affected release for review. Provider collection and payout status is recorded separately from the internal project ledger.
Can the price or deadline change without agreement?
No. Scope, price or deadline changes use a recorded variation that both parties can review. Existing accepted terms remain visible.
What protects a freelancer from non-payment?
Agree funded stages before work begins, submit against the stated criteria and keep delivery evidence in the project. Do not deliver paid work through an off-platform channel that removes the transaction record.
What protects a buyer from poor or incomplete work?
Use measurable acceptance criteria, staged previews, counted revisions, handover requirements and—when appropriate—an independent quality review before final release.
What happens to source files and usage rights?
Preview access can be separated from source access. Paid-stage rights, licences and handover obligations are recorded so both parties can see what transfers and when.
How are hourly projects controlled?
The agreed rate, weekly ceiling and work logs are visible. Additional hours require approval; they are not silently charged.
Are fees and currency conversion hidden?
Applicable platform fees, wallet amounts, provider amounts and fixed exchange-rate snapshots are shown before confirmation. Historical orders keep the terms accepted at purchase.
Communication, privacy and quality
What if one party stops responding?
Use project messages and the disappearance or continuity workflow. Support can review dates, messages, funded stages and delivery evidence without silently redirecting money.
How does GigAfrika reduce harassment and pressure?
Members can block direct conversations, report harassment or discrimination, and keep project disputes in the protected project record. Safety reporting does not require a paid plan.
Should passwords or one-time codes be shared?
Never. Do not upload passwords, OTPs, recovery codes, private keys or unrestricted API credentials. Use limited project access and revoke it after handover.
How is confidential business information and privacy handled?
Protect privacy by using project-scoped confidential resources and accepted confidentiality terms. Access is limited to authorized project participants; adding a collaborator does not automatically expose every private resource.
How is AI-assisted work handled?
Delivery can include AI-use, human-review and licence declarations. A declaration is evidence for review, not an automatic guarantee of originality or quality.
Can reviews be manipulated?
Reviews are tied to settled work. Sponsored placement is labelled and cannot buy a positive review. Review disputes and pattern inspection support reasoned moderation.
Problems, disputes and aftercare
How do I report a project problem?
Open the project safety or dispute workspace, explain the issue and attach relevant evidence. Both project parties can respond, and financial decisions require reasons.
Can a decision be appealed?
Yes. Eligible decisions have an appeal path and independent-review controls, including conflict declarations for assigned reviewers.
What if a delivered file may be unsafe?
Treat unexpected files cautiously. GigAfrika records scan status and blocks detected threats; when scanning is optional, an unscanned file is never described as certified clean.
What happens after completion?
The agreement can include a warranty period, handover checklist, defect request, maintenance schedule and repeat-hire workflow so aftercare does not depend on memory or informal promises.
Can I move to another freelancer if continuity fails?
Handover records, collaborators and replacement-hire drafts can support continuity. A replacement is a separate agreed engagement; the system does not silently change the original payee.
Can I export my history?
Members can export their own account and work history. Private records belonging to another party, identity evidence and restricted messages are not included.
Need help with a real situation?
Keep the project brief, messages, dates, payment record and delivery references together. Do not post identity documents, passwords or one-time codes in ordinary messages.
